At Washington Hebrew Congregation, we welcome the sweetness of the new year on Rosh HaShanah by reflecting on our past year and reawakening our spirit for the year to come. On Yom Kippur, we fast as a means to achieve teshuvah (repentance). We also take this opportunity to recommit ourselves to social action and perform acts of tzedakah.
This year’s Food Drive collection will benefit Washington Hebrew Congregation’s Sunday Stuffing — All the Fixin’s. All non-perishable foods will be accepted. You can drop food off at Temple or JBSC now through November 26.
The Community Issues/Social Action Committee and WHECTY have teamed up to help with this year’s High Holy Days Food Drive.
For Sunday Stuffing, we are collecting the following items:
Our Greeters ensure that everyone – Temple members, visitors, guests, and extended family – each person is made to feel welcome when they come into our buildings. From a warm smile to starting a conversation and answering basic questions about WHC, our Greeters help create community.
Belonging to a synagogue is about creating a community and building lifelong relationships. We embrace the Jewish value of kavod — dignity — which guides us to create a culture of respect from the moment anyone enters our spaces.
We celebrate the diversity of all the individuals and families who call WHC home.
Apply to be a Greeter
This role is similar to that of the Greeter, but ushers are also there to assist with making sure people know where the prayer books are, guiding traffic in case of an emergency, monitoring the doors, ticket-taking, and more throughout the High Holy Days.

Our religion gives us the opportunity to honor a long life with the beautiful custom of celebrating a second (or first!) B’nei Mitzvah when a person turns 83.
If you celebrated or will celebrate your 83rd birthday between last Yom Kippur (9/25/23) and this one (10/12/24), we invite you to read the Torah blessings with us during our morning Intergenerational Services on Yom Kippur – from your seat at Temple, JBSC, or home! To participate in this aliyah, fill out the form below.
CELEBRATE AN 83rd BIRTHDAY

If you welcomed a new child or grandchild after Rosh HaShanah 2023 (9/15/23) and would like us to include them in this reading, please fill out the form below.
