Cantor Hamstra invites us into her home again for our SECOND ANNUAL LGBTQ+ TU B’SHVAT SEDER! We will engage with Judaism, the natural world, and our community through an LGBTQ+ lens. Because of space constraints, this event DOES have a cap, so please register early if you plan to attend and let us know if your plans change and you can’t make it.
Dinner will be served, and it’s a potluck, so feel free to bring your favorite (vegetarian) side dish to share! We’ll take care of dessert, so please focus on the savory! Consider choosing something that includes your favorite of-the-earth ingredient(s) or one that has special meaning to you.
There will be a few cars leaving from DC to Potomac, so we will do the best we can to make carpooling an option for anyone who needs it! Just reach out to Rick and Allie at lgbtq@whctemple.org to inquire (or to offer to be a driver).
What is a Tu B’shvat Seder? This often-overlooked holiday gives us the opportunity to celebrate the birthday of the trees and our natural world a little more up close and personal! Featuring an array of foods harvested directly from the earth, this tradition dates back to the 16th-century Kabbalists. Modeled after the Passover Seder and its four cups of wine, it celebrates the Divine in nature, in ourselves, and in our relationships with others.
