From generation to generation, Passover both ties us to our past and forces us to look at our present as we connect the struggle for freedom in Egypt to the pressing causes and urgent challenges of today.

Across the country, hateful anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is on the rise. Lives are being threatened, identities questioned, and their very existence is called into question.

Join us Wednesday, April 20th at 7 pm at Washington Hebrew Congregation for a special event as we celebrate LGBTQ+ freedoms and offer a road map for understanding, action, and compassion. A nosh will be provided.

Our event will include:

• Pronoun Primer – Identities are changing, fluid, and we know you have a lot of questions. Enter a “No Dumb Questions” zone and hear from leading educators on what to know and how to navigate identities and changing language.
• The Action Agenda – From Florida to Montana and seemingly everywhere in between, legislation is being proposed to curtail freedoms and undermine the most vulnerable of LGBTQ+ youth. Hear more about the legislative landscape from activists and lobbyists and learn how you can make a difference to combat hate.
• Judaism Responds – How does this all circle back to us as Reform American Jews? Learn with Rabbi Fischel about how our Judaism informs and compels us to care, act, and respond.

FreeState Justice is a legal advocacy organization that seeks to improve the lives of low-income lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (“LGBTQ”) Marylanders. Despite recent, incremental judicial victories for the national LGBTQ community, the low-income LGBTQ population continues to struggle with legal challenges such as harassment, complex family law issues, and anti-LGBTQ discrimination in employment, housing, foster care, healthcare, and public accommodations. In addition to needing attorneys with specific knowledge of how the law affects LGBTQ citizens, LGBTQ clients need attorneys who will treat them with respect and understanding. FreeState’s mission is to combine direct legal services with education and outreach to ensure that the low-income LGBTQ community in Maryland receives fair treatment in the law and society.
