There are so many people in the District, Maryland, and Virginia who need a helping hand. That’s why WE NEED YOU!
Washington Hebrew Congregation is proud to formally roll out WHC in the DMV, our new community volunteer outreach program. Since our Temple’s founding in 1852, Washington Hebrew members have volunteered throughout the region, and until COVID brought much of it to a halt, we maintained a healthy calendar of volunteer activities.
Mitzvah Day, Sunday Stuffing, and our MLK Day of Service continue to satisfy many members’ desires to do good and contribute on behalf of those in need. WHC in the DMV is for those who want to get outside of Temple and come face-to-face with the organizations and people in need that benefit from our involvement. A small group has already piloted multiple activities with great results including:
The volunteers LOVED it! And so will you, because the feeling you get from taking just a few hours out of your month to give to others in need is so gratifying, it carries you to the next activity and the next. In the coming months, WHC in the DMV will coordinate multiple events, not only at the Children’s Inn and Food & Friends, but with several other organizations where you can perform a mitzvah.
Sound like something you want to do? Search “WHC in the DMV” and fill out the interest form. WHC Social Action Coordinator Lauren Lieberman will add you to our mailing list and will be in touch.
In September, we’re starting Food & Friends First Fridays, and as we fill our calendar with more activities, we’ll email you a sign-up link. Most events only need between 5 – 10 volunteers so act fast if you want to go! We also need event coordinators, so if you want to be the point person on-site for the day of an activity, tell us that too.
Many of these are great opportunities for older teens looking for community service hours and anyone who wants to make a difference. Sign up today and show the DMV just how much WHC cares for our community!
