Share Your Blessings and Help Washington Hebrew Thrive

Group of people standing shoulder-to-shoulder on the bimah

Did you know that membership dues cover less than half of what it takes to power our thriving Washington Hebrew community? From Shabbat services to security to study opportunities for all ages—philanthropy is the essential key that makes everything we do possible. Please consider supporting your community today by making a gift to the Lewis S. Wiener Annual Fund before our fiscal year closes on June 30.

DONATE

If you’re 70½ years+, there’s a special opportunity for tax-smart giving:

You can give any amount (up to a maximum of $105,000) this year from your IRA directly to Washington Hebrew Congregation without having to pay income taxes on the money. Gifts of any value $105,000 or less are eligible for this benefit and you can feel good knowing that you are making a difference at the WHC. This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD.

WHY CONSIDER THIS GIFT?

  • If you are required to take minimum distributions, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your obligation.
  • You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.
  • Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.

Consult with your tax advisor or other financial professional to determine whether a QCD is right for you. If you have any questions, please contact me at mcohen@whctemple.org.
